What We Love

  • No Excess: One of the main selling points on PetInsurance.com.au pet cover is the fact that there is no excess to pay, no matter how many claims you make.
  • Lower Out-of-Pocket Expenses: When you make a claim, PetInsurance.com.au will cover 80% of your eligible vet bill, making visits to the vet much easier on your budget. When you visit a GapOnly vet, GapOnly reviews and calculates your pet insurance claim in real time, so you just pay the gap and go.
  • Cost: In our survey of Australian pet insurance prices for accidental injury and illness policies, the PetInsurance.com.au premium was well below average. Of the 25 cover options surveyed, they had the second lowest premium.
  • Cover Options: On dog, puppy and cat cover, you have the option to choose between injury and illness cover or injury only cover (which also covers specified illnesses). This makes it possible to choose the level of cover to suit your pet – and your budget.
  • Routine Care: You have the option to pay a bit more on your premium to add Routine Care cover to your policy. This provides cover for routine treatment that can include heartworm control, teeth cleaning and behavioural therapy, with an annual cap of $150.
  • Discounts & Offers: PetInsurance.com.au runs frequent promotions for new customers. At the time of writing, new customers benefit from 10% off their premiums for the first year, plus a 12 month subscription to VetChat, valued at $199. Thinking of applying? Be sure to check our pet insurance coupons page for the latest offer.
  • Extent of Cover: While PetInsurance.com.au does not offer cover on pre-existing conditions, it does allow pet owners to apply for pet insurance to cover hereditary and congenital defects, as long as the pet has not shown noticeable signs, symptoms or abnormalities prior to application, or during the applicable waiting period.
  • Cover for Life: While cover cannot be started for pets over nine years old, PetInsurance.com.au does offer ‘cover for life’ past the age of nine, as long as the pet is insured prior to reaching nine years old, and there is no break, lapse or change in the level of coverage following that milestone.

What to Consider

  • Relatively Low Annual Cap on Cat Cover: Regardless of whether you opt for injury and illness or injury only cover, PetInsurance.com.au cat cover caps annual claims at $3,000 for injury and $3,000 for illness, which is low compared to other insurers
  • Specified Illnesses Only on Indoor Cat Cover: While it’s great you don’t have to pay for injury cover for indoor cats, the illnesses covered on this policy are somewhat limited.
  • Using Intro Offers: When taking advantage of intro offers on reduced premiums, be sure to see how the policy’s standard premiums compare within the market once that intro period ends.
