The Donkey In The Lion’s Skin Story For Children
Once upon a time, a very very long time ago, a donkey was passing by the jungle and found a lion’s skin. “Oh! Look at that! A lion’s skin,” said the donkey.
“Let me put it on”, he said to himself.
The donkey wore it on and looked at his reflection in the stream. “Wow! I look just like a lion!” the donkey said, “No one can say that it is me, a donkey. I should take advantage of this.”
The donkey then marched into the village, wearing lion skin. Seeing a lion in the village, the people got scared and started running helter-skelter. The villagers left their stores and kiosks open. The women dropped their baskets full of hay and fruits on the road, grabbed their kids and locked themselves indoors. “This is so much fun!” thought the donkey, “The villagers have left food, fruits and their belongings out here for me to feast on.”
The donkey happily ate as much as he wanted to, grabbed the loot and went back into the forest.
For the next some days, the donkey relaxed and enjoyed the food he had brought from the village. When his supply ran out, he wore the lion’s skin and once again marched towards the village. All the villagers once again ran when they saw the lion, and the donkey gathered the loot. This kept on repeating for many days. Every time the donkey was successful, his confidence grew.
“We all must do something about this lion. But what can we do?” thought the villagers.
“Let us follow him and see where he goes”, a villager suggested. And so the village people decided to follow the lion the next time he came to the village.
While still wearing the lion skin, the donkey went straight to the wheat fields and started singing loudly. The villagers recognised his braying. “It is not a lion; it is a donkey! Braying in a lion’s skin”, said the villagers, “We must teach him a lesson.”
The villagers caught hold of the donkey in the lion’s skin and started beating him mercilessly.
