Story – Cow And Tiger

 

In the ‘Padma Purana’, a story has been given to highlight the importance of truth. A cow got separated from her companions while returning from the pasture. He remembered that because of the delay, his calf, tied in the cowshed, must have been crying distraught with hunger.

Anxious, she was returning fast towards the cowshed when suddenly a tiger came in front and blocked her way. The tiger said, ‘I am very hungry. I will fulfill my hunger by eating you.

The cow cried thinking of her calf being disturbed by hunger and said, ‘Tighraj, I do not have the attachment to my life, but I am distressed by the fear of the calf being stunned by hunger. Trust me, I will come back to you after we feed her.’

The tiger was heartbroken after hearing the compassionate words of the cow. He gave her permission. The cow ran and reached the cowshed. After giving milk to the calf, she pampered and said to the other cows, ‘I am handing over my calf to you. Nurturing it by feeding it alternately.

The other cows said, ‘Why are you going to the mouth of death posing as Satyavrata?’ The cow replied, ‘It is Adharma to break the word. I cannot commit sin to save my life.’

The tiger was stunned to see the cow returned. He said, ‘I don’t want to be a partaker of sin by taking the life of a truthful person like you. Go take care of your calf.

As soon as this was said, as a result of the virtue of compassion and mercy, the tiger went to heaven.

 

Story – Spoken Words Don’t Come Back

 

Once a farmer called his neighbor good and bad, but later when he realized his mistake, he went to a saint. He asked the saint to take back his words. The saint said to the farmer,

You collect a lot of feathers and keep them in the middle of the city. The farmer did the same and then reached the saint. Then the saint said,

“Now go and collect those feathers and bring them back, the farmer went back, but by then all the feathers had flown away from the air. And the farmer reached empty-handed to the saint.

Then the saint told him that the same thing happens with the words spoken by you, you can easily take them out of your mouth but you cannot take them back even if you want.

What can be learned from this story:

• Before saying something bitter, remember that after saying good and bad, your words cannot be taken back. Yes, you can definitely ask for forgiveness from that person, and should also ask for it, but human nature is such that whatever you do, a person gets hurt somewhere.
• When you say bad to someone, it is to hurt him, but later he hurts himself more. What is the use of torturing yourself, it is better to remain silent.

 

Story – Secret Of Success

 

Once a young boy asked Socrates what is the secret of success?

Socrates told the boy that you meet me tomorrow on the bank of the river. Then Socrates asked the young man to go with them towards the river.

Then suddenly Socrates caught the boy’s head and immersed him in the water. The boy struggled to get out but Socrates was strong and kept him immersed until he started turning blue.

Then Socrates took his head out of the water and as soon as he came out, the first thing the boy did was to take a deep breath. Socrates asked,

What did you want the most when you were there?” The boy replied, “Breath.” Socrates said, “That is the secret of success.

When you want success as badly as you wanted to breathe, you will find it.” There is no other secret than this.

 

Story – Stones, Pebbles, and Sands of Life

 

A professor of Philosophy entered the class with a few things. When the class started, he took a big empty glass jar and started filling big pieces of stone in it.

Then he asked the students whether they were full? And everyone said, “Yes, then the professor took a box full of small pebbles and started filling them in the jar. After shaking the jar a little, these pebbles got settled among the stones.

Once again he asked the students whether the jar was full. And everyone answered yes. Then the professor took out a sandbox and started pouring the sand filled in it into the jar. The sand also filled the remaining space.

And once again he asked if the jar was full? And everyone answered together, “Yes.” Then the professor began to explain, “I want you to understand that this jar represents your life.

Big stones are the important things in your life, your family, your partner, your health, your children – such things that even if all your other things are lost and only this remains, your life will be complete.

These pebbles are some other things that matter like your job, your house, etc. And this sand represents all the other small things.

If you fill the jar with sand first, there will be no room for pebbles and stones. This is what happens with your life.

If you spend all your time and energy on small things, then you will never have time for those things which are important to you.

Focus on the things that are important for your happiness. Play with the kids, dance with your partner. to go to work,

There will always be time to clean the house, to throw a party. But focus on the stones first—the things that really matter. Set your priorities. Everything else is just sand.”
